Abstract

MARQUEZ LUNA, Juan  and  ASIAIN ALVAREZ, Julieta. La colección de Coleoptera (Insecta) del Museo de Zoología "Alfonso L. Herrera", Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM, México. Acta Zool. Mex [online]. 2000, n.79, pp.241-255. ISSN 2448-8445.

The history, recent situation and perspectives of the Coleoptera collection of the Museo de Zoologia "Alfonso L. Herrera", Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM, is presented. The collection consists of 1,178 species and 5,664 specimens from 44 families. Five hundred fifty two species are identified only to family level, 298 to specific level, 200 to generic level, 21 close to some species, and 107 to another taxonomic category. This collection includes 121 type specimens from 20 species and four families. From the 11,869 species approximately recorded from Mexico, we have 9.6% and 2.2%, as only from the specimens identified to specific level. The most important family in species number, specimens, type species and specific identifications is Staphylinidae. Most of the specimens are from Morelos, Veracruz, Hidalgo and Oaxaca, but many States are not well represented. Research projects, concluded or in development, that dial with specimens of the collection, are commented. The specimens identified to generic and specific level are listed.
