Abstract

AFRASHTEHFAR, Kelvin I.  and  ZERON, Agustín. Periodontal regenerative potential through stem cells obtained from the periodontal ligament. Rev. Fac. Med. (Méx.) [online]. 2012, vol.55, n.4, pp.4-9. ISSN 2448-4865.

Tissue engineering has made great advance in molecular signaling and the establishment of a network for cellular scaffolding, however the other key element is: the cell. To date there is no ideal periodontal treatment to achieve a complete regeneration of lost tissues. It has now been implemented the use of periodontal ligament progenitor cells in tissue engineering to develop new therapies for periodontal regeneration. It really is exciting to get involved and apply these advances that will soon be able to access them, for the benefit of people who need this new stomatological medical service.

Keywords : periodontal regeneration; tissue engineering; periodontal ligament; stem cell; progenitor cells.
