Abstract
NOVELO-CASANOVA, D. A. and MARTINEZ-BRINGAS, A.. A seismic attenuation zone below Popocatépetl volcano inferred from coda waves of local earthquakes. Geofís. Intl [online]. 2005, vol.44, n.2, pp.177-186. ISSN 2954-436X.
Using a single scattering model, weighted averages of the quality factor <Q c > were estimated at 6 Hz for coda wave windows 25s after S-wave arrival at depths ranging from 2 to 10 km and magnitudes between 2 and 3. Considering Q c -1 as intrinsic attenuation, we find a zone of seismic wave attenuation between 6 and 8 km depth attributed to the presence of magma and partial melting of rock.
