Abstract

GARCIA MARTINEZ, L. Miguel. ¿Es la tesis de la subdeterminación una tesis coherente?. Crítica (Méx., D.F.) [online]. 2019, vol.51, n.151, pp.35-63.  Epub Apr 15, 2020. ISSN 0011-1503.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iifs.18704905e.2019.02.

The thesis of empirical underdetermination figures as one of the major contemporary challenges against scientific realism. Nevertheless, it has been frequently considered as a coherent challenge and a way to mitigate its impact has been sought by either weakening some realist position or attacking some of its most problematic premises. In the present essay, I defend an argument against it, namely, that it is a thesis that leads us to a reductio and that such a result defeats its alleged plausibility as an anti-realist thesis.

Keywords : antirealism; empirical underdetermination; theory ladden; theoretical model; reductio.
