The purpose of the paper is to present the analysis of three knowledge-integrating activities for upper secondary students to link theoretical contents seen in class with practical applications of chemistry, ecology and environment. These activities involved the production of an organic coagulant -chitosan- obtained from shrimp exoskeletons to treat residual water generated from the mopping of floors on the site, as well as the implementation of a school orchard and the construction of a manual wastewater treatment plant. The hypothesis stated that students construct new knowledge when they link the theoretical contents seen in class with their daily life, because it is in daily practice that arise the rational and empirically treatable problems and solutions. A generality qualitative methodology was used, as well as several specific methods for obtaining the coagulant and the orchard. The students corroborated the hypothesis by returning to the generalized expression of what they learn by doing.
