Abstract

VAZQUEZ CLAVELLINA, Iván B.. The informative coverage of the Third Centennial of El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha in the Mexican press (1903-1905). Rev. panam. comun. [online]. 2021, vol.3, n.2, pp.62-71.  Epub Jan 17, 2022. ISSN 2683-2208.  https://doi.org/10.21555/rpc.vi2.2437.

In May 1905 marked three centuries since the publication of the first edition of El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha . The proposal to celebrate the third centennial was initially promoted in the press by journalists and intellectuals in Spain and later in Mexico. The following article analyzes the coverage of the third anniversary of the work in the Mexican press. The objective was to identify celebrations, ceremonies and contests through articles published in newspapers, weeklies and magazines. To obtain the information, the collection of the Hemeroteca Digital Nacional de México (HNDM) was used and notes were located that deal with the organization of the tribute and the festivities established by scholars and officials. The results uncover publications, journalists and correspondents who reported on the festivities, and helped consolidate Don Quixote as the most important literary work in the Spanish language during the early years of the 20th century.

Keywords : Don Quixote; third centenary celebration; mexican press; spanish journalists.
