If the reader takes a look at the Index of edition number 98 of the Cartography Magazine (January-June 2019), he will find a total of fourteen articles, addressing different problems which authors give solution to using Geographic Information Technologies (GIT) for modeling, predicting, processing and analyzing geospatial information.

The articles in this edition that contribute to the field of Geodesy range from the use of the current systems for Earth observation to differentiate crustal movements relative to sea level, to the development of an alternate methodology for prediction of normal-orthometric altitudes.

Some articles address the use of Cartography in different topics and fields of application. They deal with the accuracy of cadastral cartography, cognitive experiences for the interpretation of dasymetric maps, the study of historical maps to understand the development of cities and the progress of urbanization, among other subjects.

ITs are the main topic of the greatest number of articles included in this edition: LiDAR for the estimation of carbon densities on the ground, and Teledetection using satellite images for the study of forest fires and detritus spills in rivers. Also noteworthy are the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which are complemented with remote perception techniques in some studies, while others are used to model scenarios of natural disasters and their impact on population, pedestrian accessibility studies, advance of dangerous species, etc. These reference studies will serve as a support for making decisions and for the implementation of land management policies. Finally, this edition is completed with an article related to the quality of geospatial databases.

We hope that the variety of topics and problems addressed in the articles included in edition number 98 make a meaningful contribution to teaching and research and stimulate the interest of students, teachers and researchers in increasing or creating new research lines.
