Gastric cancer is the second malignant neoplasia in frequency between cancers of the digestive tract in out country. The only treatment with curative potential is surgical resection. However, the extent of lymphadenectomy has been subject of multiple controversies during the lat decades, mainly between Eastern and Western countries. In the present review an extensive look of english literature was performed looking for evidence based medicine to solve this matter. Nowadays the recommendation is to perform D2 dissection in centers with surgical experience with the procedure to limit the morbidity of the surgery.
