Abstract

CARRILLO ESPADAS, Paulina Isabel  and  FLORES GALAZ, Mirta Margarita. Scientific Women in Yucatan: Obstacles, Challenges, and Experiences during Their Educational Trajectories. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.1, pp.253-284.  Epub Oct 02, 2023. ISSN 2448-878X.  https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2023.53.1.532.

In Mexico, women scientists represent 30%. In Yucatan, only 277 women integrate into the scientific community and they are members of the National Researchers System (SNI). The purpose of the study was to describe academic trajectories in higher education, and the obstacles, challenges, and experiences of being part of the scientific community. The study was based on quantitative methodology and 152 women were selected by non-probability sampling to be evaluated with a 41 questions questionnaire. The results show that women had good academic trajectories, without desertion, and scholarship-funded studies but lacked vocational models. The research concludes women had challenges and obstacles associated with gender, such as invisibility of their science work, inequity, parenting, and child care stereotypes, women´s double workday and they have problems conciliating family and work

Keywords : women; scientists; academic trajectories.
