Abstract

VAZQUEZ RAMOS, Aurelio; LOPEZ GONZALEZ, Graciela  and  TORRES SANDOVAL, Imelda. Gender-based Violence in Higher Education Institutions: Elements for the State of Knowledge. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2021, vol.51, n.2, pp.299-326.  Epub Oct 20, 2023. ISSN 2448-878X.  https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2021.51.2.382.

The objective of this paper is to analyze some research on gender-based violence in Higher Education Institutions (IES) to systematize the evaluation of the revised work and guide critical reflection of how manifestations of violence within higher education institutions are perpetuated. The methodological design used was descriptive content analysis. The social relevance of the proposal is that studies on gender-based violence require an interdisciplinary perspective, so education in its socializing role plays an important role in contributing to gender equity. Among the findings and results, it establishes that universities have a role in contributing to the resolution of problems concerning society. This supports the need to harmonize the legal and institutional frameworks of universities with the legal rules that allow to sanction acts of violence and create university legislation. However, policy changes will be insufficient if mechanisms that demonstrate asymmetrical relationships and even the subtlest manifestations of violence within institutional structures are not incorporated.

Keywords : gender violence; Higher Education Institutions.
