Abstract

HERNANDEZ RODRIGUEZ, Patricia Pamela. Agency of Hnöñhö Children in Mexico City. An Etnography on Experiences of Eviction and Deterritorialization. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2021, vol.51, n.2, pp.71-102.  Epub Oct 20, 2023. ISSN 2448-878X.  https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2021.51.2.366.

This work describes the experience of 21 hnöñhö children between 3 and 11 years old who live in the Metropolitan area of Mexico City, to analyze how the child population builds its agency and its ways of understanding the world within a context of eviction and deterritorialization. The methodology is educational ethnography, using strategies friendly and respectful for the children’s context, such as drawing, photography, narration, and videos. Among the main findings, it shows the importance and appropriation that, from an early age, the actors give to their communities of origin. Likewise, it reveals their capacity to respond to their immediate environment despite experiences of hostility and discrimination. It urges for further studies given the theoretical gaps about children’s agency in these types of contexts.

Keywords : ethnography; children agency; eviction; deterritorialization; migration.
