Abstract

The article aims to analyze the educational policy for young people through the program “I don’t drop out” and proposed guidelines and recommendations for public policy to avoid abandonment in upper secondary education. It emphasizes youth participation in these policy actions. For its analysis, it takes as a reference the precarious conditions that encase youth’s right to education and contributions derived from two research projects developed within an Academic Body between 2012 and 2020. These investigations answered which and how social conditions contextualize the exercise of the youth’s right to education. Its theoretical, methodological perspective was comprehensive interpretive with dialogic tools to encounter young people from public schools of upper secondary education in the State of Mexico. It argues that educational policies require a broad, fair and comprehensive view of youth and enrolling in democratic projects of a nation for which youth is particularly relevant. In this sense, it provides elements for consideration in educational policies with young people.
