Abstract

SUAREZ-RIENDA, Verónica  and  LOPEZ SANCHEZ, Oliva. The emotional dimension regarding cancer. Analysis strategies from health anthropology. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2019, vol.26, n.76, pp.31-59.  Epub Oct 02, 2020. ISSN 2448-8488.

The emotional dimension is an area of culture that has been worked tangentially in the processes of prevention-health / illness / care, and needs to be taken into account to strengthen the analytical strategies of social research. Based on the relational approach regarding the anthropology of health, this document proposes placing the ‘emotional dimension’ as a cultural category with regard to the ethnographic analysis of the different ways of understanding, attending and living with cancer. To this end, a brief ethnographic analysis is carried out based on this dimension, allowing the different visions of cancer and the personal-professional conflicts of the therapists involved to be seen in light of the attention processes, along with the emotional management developed by people with advanced cancer.

Keywords : Health anthropology; emotional dimension; cancer; feeling rules; emotion work-labor.
