Abstract

GUZMAN LECHUGA, Adolfo  and  VALDEZ BORROEL, María del Socorro Gabriela. Learning methods in new students of the BA in Graphic Design at the UA de C. Zincografía [online]. 2021, vol.5, n.9, pp.81-100.  Epub Nov 03, 2021. ISSN 2448-8437.  https://doi.org/10.32870/zcr.v0i9.91.

The work presents the results of the study with an exploratory and especially qualitative approach, carried out on new students to the degree in Graphic Design (2019 generation) at the School of Plastic Arts (EAP) of the Autonomous University of Coahuila (UA de C). With a questionnaire, information was collected about their learning methods; with the aim of knowing their study habits, learning style (Active, Reflective, Theoretical, Pragmatic) and the preferred perception channel (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic), in order to characterize the generation and propose institutional pedagogical supports and classroom that enhance learning. From the results, it stands out that few students are interested in study skills. Most do not give importance to them, they lack study strategies and techniques. This is the cause of repetition, desertion and frustration, due to poor academic performance. The study identified the Visual channel as the preferred one and its relationship with the study area, graphic design, as well as the Reflective learning style as dominant, with this opening possibilities to propose an environment and activities that improve teaching and learning.

Keywords : Learning methods; Study habits; Learning styles; Perception channels.
