This essay is the product of the advance of a doctoral research in design at the University of Palermo, which was carried out throu gh the transdisciplinary approach of graphic design with social theory and its historical relationship with social aspects. From the socio-critical paradigm of Kuhn (1962/2004) in his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, an inductivist approach was conducted using comparative description, that is, the argument of comparison and evaluation of different forms to theories. The so cial reality provided the different categories of social type that hel ped to understand how a phenomenon of corporate graphic design in public streets appeared as a vestige of the history of a culture.

Then, through the different analyzes, an approximation was made to the social reality in the city of Tampico, located in the nor thwest of Mexico, on the border with the United States. The social discourse and the changes occurred in the corporate designs in a given temporality allowed to understand their socio-graphic-socio-identity. The previous, under the clear idea that the design arises from the socioeconomic and cultural transformations, as well as the social changes are conditioned by the influence of the design.

Keywords : design; theory; social reality.
