Abstract

GONZALEZ-MARTINEZ, Larisa. Lay participation in the institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools: Towards a history of the Lasallian association in Mexico, 1959-1961. Let. hist. [online]. 2023, n.29, e7409.  Epub Jan 19, 2024. ISSN 2448-8372.  https://doi.org/10.31836/lh.29.7409.

This article is the result of an exploratory study with the purpose of providing relevant notes on the history of the Lasallian association in Mexico. For this, I carried out documentary research employing the La Salle en México magazine, which I consulted in the Lasallian interdistrict novitiate of Lagos de Moreno. I considered that alumni societies were the direct antecedent of the Lasallian association and offer evidence regarding the intense activity linked to the development and consolidation of this relationship between the La Salle devotes and the laity, which, in turn, led to the organization of national meetings and to the Mexican involvement in related international forums. Likewise, I demonstrate that this Lasallian association was the result of a complex process of resistance and uncertainties, stemming from the changes that the Catholic Church and its educational environment went through.
