This article studies the effects of sabotage access to Telmex’s network on competition in the Mexican fixed national long distance market. In order to do this, we develop and calibrate a model to analyze and determine the existence of such effects. The study finds thet sabotage had negative and significant effects on competition. However, we estimate thet the magnitude of these effects was low, because the sabotage affected a small portion of the market and its duration was short. In addition, the sectoral regulator’s intervention was enough to stop the sabotage.
