Abstract

RAWICZ MORALES, Daniela Marta. The Roots of Florestan Fernandes’ Sociological Thinking. Estud. sociol [online]. 2019, vol.37, n.111, pp.551-580.  Epub Feb 20, 2020. ISSN 2448-6442.  https://doi.org/10.24201/es.2019v37n111.1722.

This article reviews the intellectual beginnings of Florestan Fernandes, trying to identify the bases of his thinking and presenting evidence about the peculiar articulation of two facets that characterize his trajectory: academical and political. The article is organized around four key aspects of his vital experience, which dictate, in our point of view, his most important positions: the markers of his social origin; his political participation in the Partido Socialista Revolucionario; liberal reformism and education as a trench against authoritarianism; and the essay of national interpretation and the reception of worldwide sociology.

Keywords : Florestan Fernandes; sociology; academy; political participation.
