Abstract

MONTALVO-JAVE, Eduardo E. et al. Update in survival hepatocellular carcinoma. Cir. cir. [online]. 2021, vol.89, n.1, pp.104-114.  Epub Nov 08, 2021. ISSN 2444-054X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/ciru.19001375.

Objective:

To offer an update of the literature, including clinical and epidemiological aspects associated with the survival of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Method:

A literature search was conducted using the electronic databases Medline, Embase, Springerlink and PubMed to identify papers published from January 1, 1985 to August 2020.

Results:

This study analyzed the surgical approach and management of hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide, comparing the two main therapeutic strategies that report the highest percentage of global survival.

Conclusions:

According to the protocol of study, a multidisciplinary approach is necessary. Patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma would benefit from an individualized multimodal strategy consisting of hepatic resection and, in other cases, liver transplantation.

Keywords : Primary liver cancer; Hepatocellular carcinoma; Survival; Accumulated survival.
