Abstract

The oral supplementation effect with 5 g of copper oxide wire (COW), and the day of sampling effect, on the mineral concentrations of goat blood serum and milk were evaluated. A complete randomized model was applied. The supplement with COW increased serum Cu (p = 0.04), Mg (p = 0.01), K (p = 0.005), and P (p = 0.01) in 11.7, 6.5, 11.7 and 17.6 %, respectively, and decreased (p = 0.08) serum Fe in 18.6 % in relation to the nonsupplemented goats. Serum Cu was greater (p = 0.0001) on sampling day 60 by 11.1 %. However, there was a decrease in Zn (p = 0.0001), Ca (p = 0.015), Na (p = 0.0001), K (p = 0.0036) and P (p = 0.0001) concentrations by 22, 5.5, 4.4, 10.5 and 31.1 %, respectively, in relation to day 30. The Ca in milk increased (p = 0.0001) 24.6 % on day 60, while Na (p = 0.01) and P (p = 0.03) in 21 and 10.4 %, respectively, in relation to sampling on day 30.
