Abstract

REYES TOVAR, Miriam  and  MACIAS, Eugenia. Cross-border body: Visual analysis of M de MiChoaCán by photographer Carlos Álvarez Montero. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2023, vol.18, n.35, e0002016.  Epub Dec 31, 2024. ISSN 2007-8110.  https://doi.org/10.22201/crim.20078110e.2023.3180.

Alluding to mobility processes, such as migration, is to think about the value that the body, as an element that allows displacement, entails as a narrative of memory. This created the posibility to ask, how do we approach the sensible value of the body in migration? As a possible answer to this question, we present the notion of the body as a spatiality of the subject that becomes experiences, the same that will shape the image of it as a territory that is written. To explain the above, in this paper, we analyze the series M de Michoacán by photographer Carlos Álvarez Montero, and we deal with elements of discussions about the photographic on three axes: a) the interpretative nature of photography, even though it is an apparently “faithful to reality” medium; b) the complex interactions between photographed subjects, author and contextual situation and c) the visuality of the images that communicates social processes, to take a look at those bodies that become territories of a memory that does not have or wants to be forgotten.

Keywords : body; territory; cross-border; migration; photography; Michoacan.
