Abstract

The present article shows some results and reflections derived from a qualitative research on the socialperceptions of the urban insecurity in Santiago of Chile. The study takes as a base the particular situation of the city that, in spite of having one of the minor rates of victimisation to Latin-American level, he presents one of the major indexes of social perception of insecurity. This work deal with the strong-social-territorial-urban segregation as a symbolic frame that reveals the different social representations related to the discourse about insecurity and social policies derived from this one. There were explored the social and economically differentiated representations of spatial, social insecurity of two groups. The results of the study allow observing that the different social representations of insecurity of the communities are objected by me of study come to express two poles of the urban experience deeply delineated by the social, economic and spatial existing borders in the city.
