In recent years in Mexico, the approach to addressing gender violence in different spaces, including higher education, has gained importance due to the increase in complaints and reports made regarding this phenomenon. However, it can be observed that there is a tendency to consider gender violence as synonymous with violence against women, leaving other sectors at a disadvantage. This article reviews the concepts of violence, gender, gender violence and how these are presented and have an impact on higher education in Mexico. Finally, this work presents some reflections on the changes these terms have undergone and the need to rethink the approach to gender violence and the promotion of spaces with greater equity.
