Abstract

VAZQUEZ RAMIREZ, Rosa  and  HERNANDEZ LIMONCHI, María del Pilar. From discrimination to violation of the right to political participation of indigenous gay people. Biolex [online]. 2022, vol.14, e206.  Epub Jan 20, 2023. ISSN 2007-5545.  https://doi.org/10.36796/biolex.v14i25.206.

The multiple discrimination faced by the indigenous population is the prelude to the violation of human rights. The objetive of the article is to distinguish the discrimination of the gay indigenous people and to identify how the right to be voted is violated. The research has a qualitative approach; semistructured interviews were conducted, the snowball technique and the exegetical method were used.

Certain electoral institutions limit or hinder the participation of gay indigenous people in municipal candidacies, because they are based on the personal interests of a social group that remains in power and by the heteronormative system imposed. Discriminatory conduct and the violation of the right to political participation remain in force, despite progress in human rights.

Keywords : human rights; right to be voted; indigenous gay people; nondiscrimination; native people.
