Abstract
SUAREZ-MOTA, Mario E.; TELLEZ-VALDES, Oswaldo; LIRA-SAADE, Rafael and VILLASENOR, José Luis. A regionalization of the Transmexican Volcanic Belt based on its floristic richness. Bot. sci [online]. 2013, vol.91, n.1, pp.93-105. ISSN 2007-4476.
We propose the regionalization of the Transmexican Volcanic Belt morphotectonic province, based on the distribution of 4,434 of vascular plant species belonging to 999 genera and 47 families. Regionalization was done using a data matrix with species recorded in grid-cells of 30' latidude and longitude (about 2,500 km2) all along the Transmexican Volcanic Belt morphotectonic province. Based on clusters obtained with the complete linkage method, cells in the Transmexican Volcanic Belt were grouped in four floristic units; a couple of them show disjunct distribution due mostly to the orographic accidents that separate them. Likewise, the units differ in size and floristic composition and they occupy particular geographic positions inside the Transmexican Volcanic Belt, as response to the abiotic parameters that characterize them.
