Abstract

TARAZON-RUIZ, Flor-Alejandra  and  GUTIERREZ-ROHAN, Daniel-Carlos. What do professors of the Sonora University read? A study on reading as a cultural practice. Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.9, pp.63-75. ISSN 2007-2872.

This article derives from the results of the research performed to describe the cultural dispositions of professors based on the classification concepts of Pierre Bourdieu's sociological theory. Thus, it addresses specifically the reflection on what professors read, as a determining factor for the acquisition of cultural capital. Full time professors of the Sonora University were interviewed with a qualitative focus. Said professors are considered as the main subjects in the restructuring of cultural dispositions of university agents, in order to know their leaning / likings towards reading as one of the essential aspects that shape the habitus of individuals in the educational field.

Keywords : reading; professors; cultural capital.
