ESTRADA HEVIA, Tomás. Myth and violence: an approach to the Ecuadorian novel Siete Lunas y siete serpientes. Valenciana [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.32, pp.173-202.  Epub Dec 08, 2023. ISSN 2007-2538.  https://doi.org/10.15174/rv.v16i32.695.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the mythical substratum present in a novel born in this context, Siete lunas y siete serpientes (1970), by the Ecuadorian writer Demetrio Aguilera-Malta. The importance that myth acquires in this novel is the subject of the present study. The different myths and popular beliefs inserted in Malti’s narrative are not a mere cumulative succession of them, but are a fundamental part of the significance of the whole work as a whole.

Keywords : Modern literature; Ecuador; Demetrio Aguilera-Malta; Siete lunas y siete serpientes; Violence; Myths.
