Abstract

PULIDO MEDELLIN, Martín Orlando; DIAZ ANAYA, Adriana María; GARCIA, Diego José  and  ANDRADE BECERRA, Roy José. Verifying presence of anti Neospora caninum antibodies in cows in Sugamuxi province, Colombia. Rev. mex. de cienc. pecuarias [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.4, pp.501-506. ISSN 2448-6698.

The purpose of the present study was establishing the presence of anti Neospora caninum antibodies in cows in the province of Sugamuxi, Colombia, through indirect ELISA and identifying variables which influence susceptibility of bovines to this protozoan. Blood samples from 400 females were evaluated through indirect ELISA test. A 57.5 % Neospora caninum seroprevalence was found. No relationship between pregnancy and presence of parasite was found. Moreover, 27.7 % of infested cows repeated estrus. A 100 % presence of this parasite was determined in females with a history of five parturitions. Results of this study confirm presence of anti Neospora caninum antibodies in dairy farm animals in the province of Sugamuxi, and this points out potential risks for this type of farms.

Keywords : Abortion; bovine cattle; Neospora; indirect ELISA.
