Abstract

CHAVEZ MONTALVO, Francisco. El síntoma neurótico: un retorno del olvido. En-clav. pen [online]. 2008, vol.2, n.3, pp.147-155. ISSN 2594-1100.

When we live a traumatic experience, we try to "forget it" through the mechanism of repression in order to protect ourselves from having an unacceptable representation for the ego which makes us feel bad. But the memory is not completely eliminated; it returns in symptomatic form and maintains a deep unconscious symbolic relation with that memory. Using two analyses found in the works of Sigmund Freud -a bout the novel Gradiva written by W. Jensen and about the forgetting of the names- I will explain how this characteristic process of neurosis takes place.

Keywords : symptom; repression; desire; unconscious; neurosis.
