Abstract

FERNANDEZ-ORDONEZ, Juan C.  and  ARANGUREN, Angélica M. León. Occurrence of the Groove-billed Toucanet, Aulacorhynchus sulcatus, and the Collared Aracari, Pteroglossus torquatus nuchalis (Aves: Ramphastidae), in Cojedes State, Venezuela. Huitzil [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.2, pp.184-191. ISSN 1870-7459.

Until now there were no published data available about toucans at Cojedes State, Western-Central Llanos, Venezuela. We gathered and updated bibliographic and unpublished information about two taxa: the Groove-billed Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus sul catus sulcatus) and the Collared Araçari (Pteroglossus torquatus nuchalis). Aulacorhynchus sulcatus inhabits gallery forests in the southern part of the state, in localities near the Portuguesa and Tinaco rivers, and P. torquatus uses remnants of cloud forests in the northern part of the state, performing specific movements to lower areas.

Keywords : toucans; Western-Central Llanos.
