Abstract

CRUZ VADILLO, Rodolfo. Disability and higher education: A question of rights or goodwill?. CPU-e. Rev. Investig. Educ [online]. 2016, n.23. ISSN 1870-5308.

This paper addresses the relationship between disability, higher education and human rights. It is based on a research about the inclusion of disabled students at Universidad Veracruzana, which had as its main purpose to analyze the social representation of the university community about people with disabilities and their inclusion to the university. The results of an applied survey whose purpose was to investigate the social representations of the university community about students with disabilities and how their human rights are being respected or not are presented in this work. The findings point out a positive representation regarding the university inclusion of the students with disabilities; however, there is latent discrimination in the absence of the minimum accessibility concerned. However, as a result of the absence of the minimum accessibility requirements, there exists a latent discrimination.

Keywords : Disability; higher education; human rights; access to education.
