Abstract

This work exposes some aspects of the sociological theories of education from Pierre Bourdieu and Basil Bernstein. The aim is to provide theoretical instruments to conduct legal education research with a focus on faculty. This paper is divided into two sections. In the first one I present a reflective perspective about sociological research in the legal field. In the second section there is an analysis of the relevant dimensions of the theories of Bourdieu and Bernstein. A detailed focus on Bourdieu’s Homo Academicus is made because its relevance in university research. In the conclusions I suggest how to approach to classical topics in legal education with these sociological concepts.
