Abstract

LOPEZ MEDRANO, Delio Dante. The practice of criminology in detention centers. Rev. IUS [online]. 2014, vol.8, n.34, pp.125-140. ISSN 1870-2147.

This work develops historical moments that constituted the ideological basis in the practice of Criminology in detention centers. The author explains the ideological struggle that took place, mainly in the 20th century, between criminological and juridical positivism, which ended with the defeat of criminological practice, at least in the normative and judicial level. In this progress, there are practices and legal institutions as result of this dispute: the Technical Council, the classification of prisoners, the work of the criminologists in the above mentioned centers and the sentences or decisions of the judges.

Keywords : Criminology; sentence; Technical Council; prison; jurisprudence.
