Abstract

ESPINOSA SILIS, Arturo. Benefits of the system of proportional representation. Rev. IUS [online]. 2012, vol.6, n.30, pp.149-171. ISSN 1870-2147.

Currently in Mexico there is a constant debate about the effectiveness of the system of proportional representation; few see it as the way to ensure plurality in Congress, so that the votes of all citizens are properly represented. The text explains the implications of the proportional representation system and its application in Mexico, highlights the benefits of proportional representation and, in conclusion, we propose some figures through which they could not strengthen proportional representation and create a bond stronger link between representatives and citizens.

Keywords : Proportional representation; relative majority vote total issued; national vote; natural quotient; rest more; distribution ratio; overrepresentation; under representation; voting lists.
