Abstract

Synovitis and adherences of the internal tissues of the temporo-mandibular joint is a common finding during the therapeutics diagnostic arthroscopy in a 85%. Considering the question of knowing if there is a clear relation between synovitis and adherences and if there is a dependence of these diseases for the development of one to another. An arthroscopic analysis to determine the relation between synovitis and adherences was carried out in a sample of 130 TMJ of 65 patients diagnosed with internal degeneration of the TMJ, in the population seen at the Regional Hospital "General Ignacio Zaragoza" of the ISSSTE at the east zone of Mexico City from January 2006 to March 2008, after being treated by conservative means during three months and without observing optimal improvement, a diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy was carried out, obtaining these results: no synovitis nor adherences in 14.61%, without synovitis and with adherences 37.69%, synovitis and adherences in 20%. It was concluded that the relation between synovitis and adheren ces is not observed in this study even though the high frequency of this diseases.
