Abstract

TOSSI, Mauricio. Discourses of otherness in the regional drama of post-dictatorship Argentina. Culturales [online]. 2016, vol.4, n.1, pp.137-165. ISSN 2448-539X.

The negative consequences of the last dictatorship in Argentina can be clearly seen in several cultural aspects, for example, in the conception of "suspicious otherness" which the military regime introduced in social domains in order to justify and endorse its repressive and genocidal practices. Thus, with the return of democracy, art in general and drama in particular, assumed, with aesthetic responsibility, the task of resignifying those discourses on ominous otherness. Therefore, in this article we will address the poetic responses offered by regional drama as resistance strategies, in order to contribute to the new community and intersubjective processes on the recent past. To investigate this problem, we will appeal to hermeneutic tools from comparative drama and sociology of culture, and apply them to the analysis of the plays of Alejandro Finzi and Carlos María Alsina, written in Patagonia and the Argentine Northwest during the 1983-2003 period.

Keywords : discourses on otherness; social memory; regional drama; post-dictatorship Argentina.
