Abstract

ORTIZ REYNOSO, Mariana  and  ACEVES PASTRANA, Patricia Elena. The pharmaceutical legislation in Mexico: provisions on professional practice 1917-1973. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2014, vol.45, n.1, pp.26-34. ISSN 1870-0195.

This paper describes the legal framework applicable to the pharmaceutical practice in the period of 1917, when a new Political Constitution was issued, and until 1973, year of the publication of the first Health Code that banned any pharmaceutical practice without holding a professional degree. The aim is to show that over the period there was a loophole in the exercise of the medical professions, and that it enhanced the loss of pharmacies as the unique and natural workspace for pharmacists. We conducted a historical research for which the Mexican sanitary laws and regulations during this period were reviewed.

Keywords : Mexican pharmacy; XXth century; pharmaceutical professional regulation.
