Abstract

MORENO-ALTAMIRANO, Laura et al. Economic structure, distribution of income, dietary patterns and nutritional conditions in Mexico. Economía UNAM [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.45, pp.29-49. ISSN 1665-952X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fe.24488143e.2018.45.404.

The paper presents some descriptive analyses of the economic structure, income distribution, eating patterns and nutritional conditions, integrating evidence from epidemiology and economics. It argues that the food and nutrition depend on the evolution of the economic structure and income distribution, marked in recent years by a process of trade and capital liberalization and by public intervention relying on market forces to generate development and social welfare. The paper concludes that liberalization has promoted inequality in social and health conditions and has produced complex phenomenon of malnutrition.
