Abstract

GAZOL SANCHEZ, Antonio. A customs union in North America: is it desirable? is this possible?. Economía UNAM [online]. 2010, vol.7, n.19, pp.45-68. ISSN 1665-952X.

The process of economic integration of North America, formally institutionalized in 1994 with the launch of NAFTA is paralyzed.However an "informal" integration  is developing  in the realm of facts. The text refers to the advantages and disadvantages, opportunities and obstacles to progress in the formal framework, so we can transform the current free trade area to  a customs union,  or even  to a common market. None of the three governments involved seem to accept greater formality in the relationship. In the meanwhile they are trying by heterodox ways to strengthen  the relationships. To this regard it is remarkable the inconsistency shown by the Mexican government
