Abstract

LIVIO DE LOS RIOS CORTES, Víctor. Mergers and acquisitions in Mexico, 1986-2005. Economía UNAM [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.12, pp.60-92. ISSN 1665-952X.

This paper examines the main characteristics of merger and acquisition processes in México from 1988 to 2005. Important transformations occurred during these years in the restructuring of companies and corporate groups. The author explains that in México, as in the world economy, the acquisition and mergers showed a markedly cyclical nature. Also, the processes were concentrated in certain sectors, and the predominant type of the operations was horizontal. Finally, there is a brief analysis of the internationalization process of Mexican companies, involving the acquisitions of the companies abroad which has implied the creation of a transnational Mexican sector that is establishing a major part of its operations outside of the country.
