This article aims to systemically rethink practices in corporate social responsibility in small and medium tourism enterprises. The approachis of systemic orientation using the viable system model to identify factors related to corporate social responsibility. With the implementation of the viable systemmodel and international standards, small and medium enterprises can set their own principles to practice corporate social responsibility in their environment. The revised literature provides only guidance for managing the corporate social responsibility, but it is advisable to applyit in a case study. The methodology can support to establish strategies to start including corporate social responsibility into the business models of small and medium-sizedtourism businesses. The tourism industry needs to go beyond passive philanthropy to active social responsibility with the use of systemic models in small and medium enterprises.
