The present work aims to carry out a first approach to the political work and military of the Cuban liberal warlord José Miguel Gómez in the period from 1898-1901, from the documents reviewed in archives and the press of the time. Is also an analysis of the level of acceptance and criticism he faces, especially after the Foundation of the Republican Federal Party of the Villas and his years as a Provincial Governor; There are also references in the work to the work being done in favor of the Platt Amendment in the Constitutional Assembly of 1901.
