LEVINE, Elaine. El proceso de incorporación de inmigrantes mexicanos a la vida y el trabajo en Los Ángeles, California. Migr. Inter [online]. 2005, vol.3, n.2, pp.108-136. ISSN 2594-0279.
This article examines the situation of certain Mexican migrants in metropolitan Los Angeles, California, in terms of their socioeconomic status and participation in the labor market, as well as their own perceptions regarding that. The analysis includes the result of fieldwork and a 2001 survey ofi mmigrant Latinos, mostly from Mexico. The conceptual framework is transnationalism from below, residential segregation in Los Angeles, and national and local-level labor-market segmentation. At the end, some concerns are posed about the opportunities available to the second generation for achieving greater socioeconomic mobility.
