Abstract

MOLINA JIMENEZ, Iván. Afrocostarricense y comunista. Harold Nichols y su actividad política en Costa Rica. Latinoamérica [online]. 2008, n.46, pp.141-168. ISSN 2448-6914.

This article analyses the case of Harold Nichols, the only Afro-Costa Rican that actively collaborated with the Communist Party of Costa Rica during the 1930’s. This militant’s experience is useful to explore the complex relationships between that political organization and the important Afro-Caribbean and foreign community settled in the Caribbean coast, whose presence exacerbated the xenophobia and racism in Costa Rica.

Keywords : Costa Rica; Ethnicity; Communism; Racism; National identity.
