This article shows the results of a qualitative study that was conducted between February to April in 2012. It comprises our work experience in three workshops with 68 poor people, mostly women, from the gender and health perspective, undertook in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas; in order to obtain information regarding their knowledge about the Human Papilloma Virus and its link to cervical cancer. As a result, we were able to contrast that the biomedical information about cervical cancer prevention practices and the actual prevention practices by the population differ substantially; since they consider more important to talk about sexual practices with their partner than protected sex or to have a pap test. Early detection campaigns are not considering these realities in its prevention programs.
