Abstract
RICO YATE, Jhon Pablo; RAMIREZ MONTOYA, María Soledad and MONTIEL BAUTISTA, Susana. Development of oral competence through the use of Open Educational Resources. Apert. (Guadalaj., Jal.) [online]. 2016, vol.8, n.1, 00006. ISSN 2007-1094.
This study was aimed to analyze the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) as an educational innovation to develop oral English proficiency in a b-learning environment. The study was conducted on a technical level program from the Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje in Villavicencio (Colombia). A qualitative approach was used along with a case study where a group of fifteen students used the SpeakApps tool for the development of oral skills. Applied interviews to students helped to make interpretations about using the REA and the development of oral proficiency in English. An expert on the platform was also interviewed, the observation guide was applied and significant documents were studied. The findings indicate that oral proficiency of students in a basic level English course within a b-learning environment was improved with the use of open educational resources when using teaching strategies with meaningful tasks, since the possibilities of extending the practice of open language interaction and production are increased, thus helping the development of the communicative approach.
