Abstract
SAMANIEGO LOPEZ, Marco Antonio. Different meanings of Land and Liberty. Sig. his [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.47, pp.234-273. Epub July 25, 2022. ISSN 1665-4420.
This article demonstrates that the proposals of the anarchists of the Mexican Liberal Party (PLM) were different from what was proposed in the Plan of Ayala, and in the subsequent documents of the revolutionary army of the Center and South, headed by Emiliano Zapata. The watchword “Land and Freedom” was not used by the Zapatistas, but that of “Reform, Freedom, Justice and Law”. On the few occasions when “Land and Liberty” was used in some Zapatistas writings, the meaning was different from the idea of the Mexicans anarchistic living in Los Angeles, California. In addition, the PLM anarchists did not allude exclusively to the Zapatistas, but referred to the expropriators, without specifying who they were. The anarchists implanted the communism in Mexico as an example for other peoples of the world who should learn from what was happening in Mexico, where private property was eliminated, as well as all forms of government and all religious beliefs.
Keywords : anarchism; Plan of Ayala; Emiliano Zapata; reforms; communism.
