Abstract

This article analyzes the creation of El Monitor Republicano, a propaganda organ of the Liberal Constitutionalist Party (LCP), its group of collaborators and the role it played in the presidential campaign of General Alvaro Obregon in 1920. Through the review of the newspaper itself, which has been an under- explored source, as well as with the haid of other newspapers -El Heraldo de Mexico, Excélsior, El Universal and El Demócrata- and of first-hand documents, the origin of the newspaper can be understood, as well as can be the tension existing in the political environment in the electoral conjuncture, particularly between Obregón and the LCP. The aim it’s a contribution to the analysis of the press as a space for discussion and its relationship with electoral campaigns.
