Abstract

VILA MERINO, Eduardo S.. Citizenship, equity, and innovation: Reflections on the policies of social responsibility in universities. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.59, pp.61-85. ISSN 1665-2673.

The present article seeks to emphasize various important questions for the present and future of public universities, meaning institutions within the context of globalization and neoliberal political hegemonies that often entail contradictions in their social functions. In this sense, a university model is advocated based on ethics and a commitment to equity and justice. The proposal begins from a necessary reconceptualizaton of the social responsibility of universities, removed from neoliberal and corporate ideas, to return to public service and the formation of critical citizens.

Keywords : civic education; educational policies; neoliberalism; university; university social responsibility.
