Abstract
LUGO-VALENZUELA, H et al. Hydrodynamic effect and corn (Zea mays L.) production in a clay loam soil with the application of an organic additive in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico. Biotecnia [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.3, pp.22-27. Epub June 19, 2023. ISSN 1665-1456. https://doi.org/10.18633/biotecnia.v24i3.1632.
Recurring droughts and competition for water are the main threats to the development of maize (Zea mays L.) cultivation in agricultural areas of Sinaloa, Mexico. Sinaloa is the main producer of corn, but an excessive amount of water is applied with gravity irrigation, a situation that should be reduced without reducing crop yields. There are ways to improve soil moisture conditions, including minimum and conservation tillage, synthetic gels, which allow soil moisture retention. The low availability and high competition for water, strategies are required to improve water retention, with organic additives as one alternative. The objective of this research is to know the hydrodynamic effects of water, irrigation times (minimum and maximum), expenditure (liters) and corn production (kg), applying gravity irrigation with an organic additive (processed corn straw). An experimental 3x3 design was elaborated. The treatments were: control T1 (normal soil), treatment T2 (soil + 250 kg/ha), treatment T3 (soil + 500 kg/ha). A positive effect was found in the increase retention of moisture in soil with organic additive at 250 and 500 kg/ha, and a higher production of corn grain as the dose of organic additive increased.
